I think that trust is the most important thing anyone can build in their business. It leads to the creation of loyal customers as well as high value clients who are able to discern the best places to get any content they want. I agree that trust can lead to more customers and more sales but the question is how to build trust. Visitors to the site may read the contents and whatever you say there may be taken half-heartedly. I cannot say that everyone will accept at face value the contents of the site because we all know that the internet is full of lies and that it is rare to find someone who is brutally honest.

I think case studies and the interviews definitely help out. I have seen some of the people making use of the online content in the membership space. And that helps with the trust building too. Another thing is that increasing sales is not that easy because most of the people who want to increase the sales they have to offer something that can be worth converting. I agree with you 100% that you need to build trust in order to see your sales increase. I have a client know that really trusts me with behind the scenes work. I have access to his sites. Yet, if he did not trust me, I do not think that he would have done that. I had to earn his trust. And I did that with regular communication, as well as being on time for my work that I said I would do for him. I have never done anything that I should not have to one of his sites. He respects my opinion, but if I were to do something completely off the path on one of the articles that I write for him, I would ask him permission to do so first.
