Influencers: Is it still worth it to hire them?

There's been a slight trend away from social media influencers recently, especially with the bad press that came with a few bad eggs. Is it still worth it to try and court customers by hiring influencers to promote your product? Are we better off with general advertisement?

Personally? I don't think so. I feel like every second person these days brands themselves as an "influencer", but do they really have influence? A lot of these so-called Instagram influencers use programs to essentially buy followers, so they overinflate their numbers. It makes them look like people admire them when really they're just an average joe.

I'm so over the term influencer. If you do decide to use one I'd try and ensure they actually fit your image and brand. Nothing worse than hiring someone who is clearly paid to shill your product and would never in a million years be affiliated with your company if they weren't getting paid for it.

I have been asked by companies to be an affiliate marketer for their products or promote their products and I assume it's because they think based on my social media following that I might have "influence", I hope the relationship turns out to be a win-win for both the company and me. I hope my SMM helps them sell products and helps earn me a commission for the sale.

True a majority of them are just spinning lies by having fake followers. When you advertise your content with them it rarely gets seen by the target market.

It's still worth it if you hire a true and legit influencer. As you said nowadays there's a lot of fake influencers out in the market preying on clients. When hiring an influencer one should first research the influencers background, career, references and online / offline activity and presence to be sure of his / her legitimacy.

i agree with you. It is always best to do lifestyle check background whoever prospect influencer to promote a product. Promoting a product needs credibility and good reputation. Influencer brings the image of the company/product/services. It also best to have clean and clear image to have effective product endorsement.

True, true. I suppose a person peddling one's online 'influence' should be treated as any other professional. You really have to check whether or not their services are worth it from their track record and from their professionalism.

Still, are they as effective as ads? There've been instances where their followings are huge, but their influence over their viewers is minimal. I suppose the next question to ask would be 'who is a lucrative influencer to hire.'

I think they are probably worth the shot, however, be careful when choosing an influencer. There are many influencers out there who have bad reputation. You do not want that kind of a person to promote your product. What you should seek for is some reputable influencer, you know. That influencer will 100% help you to sell your product, no doubt. Talking from a personal experience.

I agree with you. Being branded as an influencer doesn't mean that you have the strong influence among the netizens. It is really important to screen them.

I agree with you. An influencer will definitely boost your sales. If he carries a considerate reputation, then people will definitely follow his suggestions and your business will certainly benefit from the influencer.

I agree on friends here that influencer is still a great advantage on site/products/services in terms of promotion. Their influence contributes to recognition of product to the market. A lot of people believe on the person that they idolize. It will surely promote and help increase sales in return. But, like what others said it's always best to know and choose influencer who are of good reputation. Since, they bring the name of the company or product. Having a clean image is always favorable.

If you think that your product or service doesn't have enough popularity among the target market, then, I guess, you should really hire an influencer.

I can answer with both yes or no, because each side has an advantage and disadvantage. However, I personally wouldn't hire an influencer, as it's not really necessary for me. Whatever they can do - I can do it myself. Though I know people who wouldn't mind hiring one, because they don't have much time to spare to do anything themselves.

Yes,it still very helpful to employ influencers to market one's products or services but influencers background check is very important. Get an influencer that will give you the best services with good legit following and can actually rake in sales and make a brand outstanding too.

No, it's a massive waste of money and they can only do things that you can already do yourself free-of-charge. If you really need an influencer why not try it yourself to save some money?

Influencers had been a part of marketing in the recent years and I would still say that they are necessary. Just like any model for any company brand, what owners need to consider is the reputation of it's hired model as the face of the product it is endorsing. It is therefore imperative to be keen and consider all possible aspects as to how an influencer can persuade people to buy product and increase sale.

I would rather run Facebook/Instagram ads, not many people use AdBlocker on smartphones especially on iOS and it's cheaper, the downside is people usually skip ads. If that doesn't work then I would probably resort to hiring influencers. But I believe influencers don't really do much, I noticed that people usually talk about "how cute or how hot" the influencer and they don't talk about the product being promoted by them.

I think it's worth it if it's a legit influencer. I've seen some ads for this certain job and what they list as a requirement is to have a set amount of followers on a certain social media account. I think that's a good way to sort out who are fakes and who are real. And I'm pretty sure the companies check the page if the products were really posted.

I find these days influencers are definitely worth it if they align with your product or service. Like say if you are stationary manufacturer, then you can sell the item through art influencer. And that way you can easily make more money as well. I have found out that hiring the right influencer you can have enough sales. And apart from that you can also have them for your product modelling. So that may be added advantage as well.

Is hiring influencers worth it? I guess it depends on the influencer and how "influential" they really are. Just having large numbers of followers doesn't make one influential so do your research before you hire anyone. Personally, I prefer general advertisement to influencers.

Influence is very powerful. But you are right guys, not everyone who was branded is influencer is really an influencer. It is like not all leaders are real leaders or not everyone who has position is a leader. However, I can say that hiring influencers are still worth it. They can do something that not everyone can do. Politicians hire them because they are still effective in their craft.

I didn't think influencers could be used as advertisers, but it's only logical. If they're well aligned with the interests and fundaments of your business it'd be a good thing to hire them, people would make a connection with them and your brand. Of course, as others have said, you should research them extensively before determining if you can really benefit with an association with them.

It is good to use influencers. Big celebrities who have a great fan following and their fans try to follow their footsteps. So using them for promoting your products is a huge benefit. General advertisements have a lesser impact on people's minds. But when a big shot is endorsing the brand, it gets conveyed in a different tone.

In the last year many online advertising experts have advised that using influencers is a waste of time. I tend to agree. I think that people have got smarter. If i want to buy something e.g a dress, I will buy it because I love how it looks on me not because some influencer is wearing it. I also think that people know that they are paid. This muddies the waters and most people think they are not being totally honest about the products they are promoting.

I think we can be the better influencers to others if we do good and make a better way to stand up high chin in front of people despite all bad times happening in our lives.

In my opinion, influencers are still effective in promoting businesses or products. They are called “ influencers” because they really get to influence people especially their followers. Actually, I’m one of those who can still be influenced by these “influencers”. Most of the time, I watch reviews of influencers before I buy a certain product or sometimes, eventhough I don’t have the intention to buy, I would suddenly have the urge to buy because of their good reviews and feedbacks.

Influencers are important but you have to do your research. It is not just the total amount of followers. You need to take a deep look at the total amount of interactions from their posts. I disregard and never look at things like a "likes buttons" because these can be artificially inflated. Rather, I'll look at the actual comments from members over a period of time. This should give you a good indication of what you are getting for your money. Tracking this information is a very difficult task that will take you days, weeks and even months to get a good idea about an influencer. To date, I haven't found a way to get this information easily. Maybe someone will build a platform for this.

Well, I think that it depends on the individual we are asking to promote our business. If he does have real influence on people especially in regard to the products and services related to your business then we may end up wasting our money. It is not very difficult to determine whether this person is useful and can be a good asset for us. Many times people try to fake it and can become a liability for us if they are not able to give any considerable results.

My take on advertising depends on the kind of your business. If it is online based then the internet is the better choice and the influencers have an edge over the traditional advertising medium. However it also depends on the budget for promotion. If you have a big budget then you can turn to the general advertisement because the influencer charges much lower for the service of endorsing a business

You need to find real influencer. Most of them just use the word influencer because they has 10,000+ followers on social media. Well, that does not make them an influencer. So you can use their service if they are legit has influence to their followers.
