How can we prevent having duplicate content on our forums?
I think you can't but you can convice your posters to slightly edit it if it is duplicated.
Are you sure you want to delete this post?
Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar. Mostly, this is not deceptive in origin. Examples of non-malicious duplicate content could include:
Discussion forums that can generate both regular and stripped-down pages targeted at mobile devices
Store items shown or linked via multiple distinct URLs
Printer-only versions of web pages
It is doubly hard to monitor a huge forum for duplicate contents and advising the members to refrain from posting such is not a guarantee. In fact, you may be giving them a bad idea so you need not mention it to them. What you need is an alert moderator who will check suspected duplicates by doing a search in the forum. As I said, it is hard to monitor but you have to persevere.
